Kybella Q & A

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable medication that destroys submental fat under your chin. The main ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, breaks down fat and helps improve fat absorption.

Once the fat is gone, it’s gone for good and only returns if you gain weight. You’re left with an improved chin profile and more defined face. Kybella is currently only cleared to treat fat under your chin, so you can’t get the injection in other areas of your body.

Do Kybella injections hurt?

It’s common to feel some stinging or pinching with Kybella injections, especially since the area under your chin is very sensitive. Pain lasts only a few seconds, although Dr. Hurvitz can numb your skin with ice or a topical solution beforehand. During each treatment, expect to get multiple injections in different areas of your chin. Some areas may be slightly more sensitive than others.

Am I a good candidate for Kybella injections?

As long as you’re over 18 years of age and are generally healthy, you should be a prime candidate for Kybella injections. If you have swallowing or breathing problems, or are planning to become pregnant, Kybella might not be your best option for toning your chin.

Dr. Hurvitz takes time going reviewing your expectations and lets you know if Kybella is right for you. It’s a safe and effective option for almost anyone who is uncomfortable with the fullness of their chin.

When will I see results with Kybella?

It takes some time for fat to break down once Kybella enters your system. You should have a visibly defined chin after about two to three weeks. Every patient responds differently to Kybella, so you might need additional treatments to get your ideal results.

Most men and women have the best results after getting two to four treatments. If you have a fuller chin though, you could need as many as six Kybella treatments. During your consultation, Dr. Hurvitz lets you know about the number of treatments you’ll likely need.
