Juvéderm Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers like Juvéderm and Belotero Balance are made up of hyaluronic acid. This natural substance closely mimics collagen and elastin in your skin and fills in grooves and wrinkles as soon as it’s injected. You’re left with instantly smoother, younger looking skin that looks and feels natural.

How long does Juvéderm last?

One of the benefits of Juvéderm is that it’s long-lasting. Most of our patients have the smooth skin they want for up to a year — sometimes as long as two years. We offer an alternative dermal filler called Belotero Balance. With this dermal filler, expect to have smoother skin for about six months or more.

No matter which type of dermal filler you chose, the length of time it lasts depends on the area that gets injected. If you get Juvéderm injections around your mouth, for example, it might not last as long as injections in your cheeks. Frequent facial movements from smiling, talking, and chewing can cause dermal fillers near your mouth to break down more quickly.

Is it painful to have Juvéderm injections?

Many men and women prefer Juvéderm over other types of injectables because some varieties are made with Lidocaine. This means that yes, you may feel a quick pinch initially, as soon as that Lidocaine gets into your skin, the area goes numb. Patients who have tried other types of wrinkle-smoothing treatments often state that Juvéderm is the least painful because of the Lidocaine benefit.

No matter which type of Juvéderm injection you choose, or if you opt for another dermal filler like Belotero Balance, Dr. Hurvitz can apply topical numbing cream beforehand to minimize any discomfort.

Do I need Botox and Juvéderm injections?

Possibly. Dr. Hurvitz specializes in ensuring you have natural, long-lasting results. In some cases, she may suggest combining dermal fillers (Juvéderm or Belotero Balance) with botulinum injections (Botox or Xeomin). Combining treatments helps relax facial muscles while restoring your skin’s youthful, supple appearance and texture. For men and women with deep grooves and wrinkles, using both types of injectables is often most beneficial.
